Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth

Well, eight days later and i'm still in pain. It appears the dentist i saw was nicknamed "The butcher of conniburrow" <- feel free to google that.

Have now been to a very nice dentist who needs to remove some jaw bone that was damaged in the extraction last week.

Am in agony, but if i had looked after me teeth when younger i wouldn't be in this state.

Kids, brush your teeth!!!!

Day 1
So today was all about getting out on the bike and putting a few miles in the legs.

I am currently riding a .....

Specialized Hardrock Sport 29er
... with slicks, Specialized Nimbus 700x38c to be precise. I rode about 20k in 90 minutes, mainly on the redway system in Milton Keynes. I left the house purposefully in non-lycra, i didn't want to pressure myself into trying to fly along racing anyone i saw on a bike / moped / milkfloat / tractor...

I switched on the Strava app i downloaded last week at the halfway point and logged my journey home. Ride home with an average of 19.2km/h and max of 35km/h i was pretty pleased based on my non-fitness and the bike i was riding.

First Post

So, here it is, the first rambling post of someone who doesn’t know what to say.

Maybe if i just pour out my thoughts it will make sense? Maybe it wont, we shall see.

My name is Will and I am 39.

The What
The reason for the blog is to try and chart my progress back to fitness and a healthier lifestyle.

The Why
Well I work 8 hours a day behind a desk and do 3-4 hours driving to and from work. that’s 12 hours of sitting of my backside. During this time I tend to eat chocolate, crisps, bacon rolls, subways etc. I also drink a fair few fizzy drinks and will pop to the pub for 2 pints of lager most days. At 39 a heart attack or stroke is just around the corner. Time to get in shape by my 40th Birthday (March 6th 2014)

The When
Tomorrow. Yes tomorrow! At the end of tomorrow i will be as fit as I was when I was 24.... OK maybe not. It starts tomorrow. I am aiming to just ride my bike tomorrow. I haven't set a goal as far as distance is concerned but I would like to ride for 2 hours.

So what spurred me into action. While I was growing up I was always very skinny, at age 16 I was just around the 9 stone mark (57kg)and stayed there until 20ish I gradually headed toward 10 stone (63.5kg) but was fit and active. I would say 10 stone is my personal ideal weight.

The shoch came when i weighed myself on Thursday. I currently weigh 12st 4lb (78.4kg). That might not sound a lot, as im 5' 11" but for someone with a very skinny frame like me, it seems massive. (it is also mainly beer gut and I have lost all muscle tone elsewhere)

I will wind this up here or I will go on forever. Last thing to say is this. I have entered two Audax rides (long distance cycle rides)
